West Mass

Yay! So I FINALLY got this up here! Well anyways, having Mass be represented by two different people like the Italys was more of my brother's idea than my own. But honestly hes right. East and West Mass are SO different.

So I guess I'll just explain her a little more here

~One thing she has in common with Eastern Mass is her love of sports~! Two of the worlds most popular sports were actually invented in Western Mass, Basketball was invented in Springfield and Volleyball in the neighboring town of Holyoke

~West Mass hosts alot of fairs in the summer time, the biggest being the Big-E featuring all the New England states

~ Gay Pride, NoHo; Okay so you all know that Mass was the first state to legalize gay marriage right? Did you also know that Northhampton (NoHo) has that highest concentration of lesbians in the US?

~Squirrels; Black squirrels are actually pretty rare in the US but in Westfield they are actually pretty common. There's actually like a little cult to them [link]

~Potholes; In general, the roads in Western Mass are TERRIBLE. The weather destroys them and with the lack of funding from the state they just don't get fixed

~ And last but not least, West's relationship with Eastern Mass. Hang on tight guys I might rant.

So West is just flat out IGNORED by Eastern Mass. Schools are overcrowded, roads are atrocious and in the government Western Mass has no representation. The only time East does seem to pay attention to West is when she wants something... like water or money. Even destroying land isn't out of the question. To quote Wiki on one of the reasons West Mass hates East Mass...

"The dismantling, submerging and disincorporation of four towns, Prescott, Enfield, Greenwich (formerly in Hampshire County) and Dana (formerly in Worcester County), to build the Quabbin Reservoir and supply water to Boston. "

And then there is the issue of the possible gas tax rise, which isn't so bad for all the city folk out east but to the people in small Western towns taking the "T" just isn't an option.

Not just the government but Easterners in general seem to know little to nothing about West Mass. These are actual conversations I've had...

Eastern Masshole #1 :"So where do you live?"
Me: "Blandford"
Eastern Masshole #1: "Oh thats in Conneticut right?"
Me: "... no its a town in West Mass"
Eastern Masshole #1: "....Soooo Conneticut."


Me: Yeah I'm out in Western Mass
Eastern Masshole #2: Omg, I'm really sorry! That sucks so bad!
Me:......... -____-


Eastern Masshole #3: Oh you live in Mass too?! Where?
Me: Blandford! Its a small little town in Western Mass
Eastern Masshole #3: LOL anything beyond Worcester doesn't really count

........ so yeah. Western Mass! I hope you like her!
